A statement from Glossop Arts and Leisure Association (GALA):
"Glossop Arts and Leisure Association have decided not to proceed with Victorian Weekend this year.
"This is due to us not having enough volunteers to run the event.
Despite numerous pleas for new committee members, we have not received
any response.
"In addition, it is an expensive event to run and whilst we have
appealed for help in the form of sponsorship from local
traders/businesses (eg sponsor one of the steam engines or a prize
for the fancy dress) again we have had very little response.
"We have decided to concentrate our efforts on one event only for this year - this being the carnival weekend which will be held on July 4-5 in Manor Park.
"Planning is well under way and we plan to have a variety of activities
going on in the park throughout the weekend. We should have something
for all the family.
"If
anyone is interested in helping with this event, they are welcome to
come along to one of our meetings. We meet on the second Tuesday every
month at 7.30pm in The George Hotel on Norfolk Street, Glossop."
