| HIGH PEAK GROUP OF DERBYSHIRE WILDLIFE TRUST |
|
|
The
Derbyshire Wildlife Trust was formed in 1962. It is the only
voluntary group in the county concerned with all forms of wildlife.
The expertise of the trust, its record of achievement, enthusiasm
and commitment are well known and respected by local authorities,
the general public, other wildlife and environmental organisations
and private sector business. The trust manages nature reserves,
provides environmental education to thousands of children each
year, advises landowners how to manage land to benefit wildlife,
plants hundreds of trees and shrubs, publishes books on wildlife
and much, much more.
|
|
There
are eight local groups of the trust which help in many
ways, including local promation and publicity, recruitment
of new members, conservation work on reserves, fund
raising and organising events and activities that give
nenbers an opportunity to socialise, meet like-minded
people and learn more about wildlife and conservation
issues.
The High Peak Group of the trust was formed
in 1993 after a well attended public meeting in Glossop.
As well as complying with the main objects of the trust
as set out above, the High Peak Group is a focus for
the interests of local people and has a particular interest
in wildlife sites in the High Peak area. Our programme of talks for 2007-8 is here.
It recognises
and liaises with other groups in the area having an
interest in wildlife. Most public meetings of the group
are held in Glossop, but meetings are also held in Bamford,
Buxton, Chapel-en-le-Frith and Whaley Bridge, as well
as other centres of interest in the area.
Walks
and study groups are conducted throughout the High Peak
area and also farther afield. Studies of local flora
and fauna are encouraged and in particular a more systematic
recording of observations is promoted.
The
group manages several Derbyshire Wildlife Trust reserves in the High
Peak area and seeks active help in working parties on these reserves.
The group sees that involvement in the local planning process is an
important part of the its work and resists any destruction of wild life
sites. It recognises the value of green oases and corridors in the
urban context and seeks to promote community involvement in the
protection of wildlife and wildlife sites. The trust, and within it the
High Peak Group, supported the parliamentary Bill which banning the
hunting of wild animals with hounds.
We actively support any efforts to promote a 'greener'
environment.
