Henry and his business partner Phillip will hit the big time if they can sign million-selling, but ultra-prudish children's author Olive Harriet Smythe. Their meeting with her, by some quirk of fate, coincides with Henry's dalliance with his paramour, his wife's unexpected return and the arrival of a camp interior designer and a sexy blonde Swedish au pair. True to the laws of farce the hapless pair strive to keep the parties apart with hilarious consequences.

A murder has been committed. Office cleaner and busybody Mrs Piper discovers a corpse which promptly vanishes when Inspector Baxter arrives to carry out an investigation. Even with no apparent evidence of a crime Baxter is eventually persuaded to continue his investigation, enthusiastically "assisted" by Mrs Piper. Motives and suspects abound before the final conclusion is revealed in this amusing and intriguing paradox.
