Monday, October 8 - Saturday, October 13 at 7.30pm
The farce
Move Over Mrs Markham
by Ray Cooney and John Chapman
Directed by Rod Goddard
Henry
and his business partner Phillip will hit the big time if
they can
sign million-selling, but ultra-prudish children's author Olive Harriet
Smythe. Their meeting with her, by some quirk of fate, coincides with
Henry's dalliance with his paramour, his wife's unexpected return and
the arrival of a camp interior designer and a sexy blonde Swedish au
pair. True to the laws of farce the hapless pair strive to keep the
parties apart with hilarious consequences.
Saturday,
November 24 - Saturday, December 1
The traditional family pantomime
Puss in Boots
by Peter Birch
Directed
by Carole Wilson
Evening
performances begin at 7.30pm
Matinees on
Saturdays and Sunday at 2.30pm
A
brand new panto from the pen of a local author. Follow the adventures
of Puss and his new master d'Artagnan in a fast paced, magical and
sparkling variation on the traditional tale, as we meet the three
musketeers, Cardinal Richelieu, Lady de Winter, and a host of colourful
and unexpected characters. Lots of Christmas fun guaranteed, suitable
for all children aged from 4 to 104.
Saturday, January 20 - Saturday, January 27
The thriller
In For
The Kill
by Derek Benfield
Directed by Andrew Wilson
Paula
and James are a seemingly happy married couple. But why does Paula have
a young admirer? What exactly are the intentions of an old friend of
the family? Suspicions, accusations and unexpected revelations between
the four characters culminate in a startling and dramatic
conclusion.
Monday, March 12 - Saturday, March 17
The
play
The Dresser
by
Ronald
Harwood
Directed by Melvin
Warhurst and Mike
Brown
Sir,
the last of the great actor managers is in a very bad way tonight. He
has difficulty remembering who he is, let alone King Lear's lines. With
Herculean effort Norman, his dresser, gets him on stage and eventually
through the night's performance, despite the efforts of the Luftwaffe
and a sadly depleted cast.
Monday, May 5 - Saturday, May 10
The
comedy murder mystery
Busybody
by Jack Popplewell
Directed
by Chris Sturmey
A
murder has been committed. Office cleaner and busybody Mrs Piper
discovers a corpse which promptly vanishes when Inspector Baxter
arrives to carry out an investigation. Even with no apparent evidence
of a crime Baxter is eventually persuaded to continue his
investigation, enthusiastically "assisted" by Mrs Piper. Motives and
suspects abound before the final conclusion is revealed in this amusing
and intriguing paradox.
Monday, June 23 - Saturday, June 28
The
drama
Hindle
Wakes
by Stanley Houghton
Directed by Grenville
Castree
It
is Wakes Week in the northern town of Hindle. Fanny Hawthorne, a lively
and determined mill-girl, has just spent a weekend in Blackpool with
her friend Mary. Or has she? Stanley Houghton's heroine challenges the
attitudes of conventional society in this daring classic drama.
