The Glossop / Bad Vilbel Twinning Association was established in 1985 and the formal twinning ceremonies were held in Glossop and Bad Vilbel in 1987. The aims of the association are: "To promote and foster friendship and understanding between the people of Glosssop and district and those of Bad Vilbel and district in Germany. "To encourage visits by individuals and groups to and from the linked towns, particularly by children and young people, and the development of personal contacts, and by doing so to broaden the mutual understanding of the cultural, recreational, educational and commercial activities of the linked towns."

The Old City Hall, Bad Vilbel Bad Vilbel is a lively and picturesque town a short distance from Frankfurt. Ever expanding, it plays host to several festivals during the year. A spa town which thrives on the bottled water industry, recreational and sporting facilities abound. Transport links to all areas can be achieved by road and rail.
The gateway to the town Bad Vilbel is an attractive spa town 10 km to the northeast of Frankfurt am Main, to which it is connected by bus and train services. About the same size as Glossop, it has a considerable number of medium sized industries including printing, pharmaceuticals and a petrol company. The main economy of the town, however, is related to the mineral waters. These are bottled by several firms in the town which together supply some 15% of the German mineral water market. The town has a Kurhaus, or pump room, where people can go to receive various forms of water related treatments, such as thermal baths, massage, etc or just enjoy drinking the waters. The River Nidda flows through the town and there are pleasant walks along its banks. Several parks, a castle, museum and woodland walks all contribute to making Bad Vilbel an attractive town to visit.
The castle ruins - sketch by H Gottschalk Bad Vilbel holds a street market in May, an animal market in August and a Christmas market in November/December. The main attractions however are the friendliness of the people and the warm welcome visitors from Glossop receive when visiting the town. |
