Weird and wonderful
tales A night of weird and wonderful tales at the Partington Theatre in Henry Street presented by George Street Books. We are all gripped and enthralled by the magical delights of storytelling and never more so than when in the power of a master storyteller. The Haunted House and other weird tales from the Saragossa Manuscripts will be told by Michael Dacre at the Partington Theatre, Henry Street, Glossop on Sunday, April 1. He will be accompanied by guitarist Steve Yates. They will conjure you to the strange world of 18th-century Spain in an Arabian Nights-style adult entertainment of tales within tales within tales, accompanied and interwoven by the magical strings of the guitar, ranging from classical to flamenco to avant-garde mood setting. You will meet (very) Moorish princesses, hanged men that descend at night and a gallimaufry of ghosts, ghouls, vampires, gypsies and wizards, not to mention lovely senoritas, bewitching serenades, foot-tapping Spanish dances and eerie sound-effects that will send a shiver up your spine. Horror, humour, high adventure and thrilling music mingle in this fantastic duet of wicked words and virtuoso guitar playing. Emma Jones of George Street Books explained why the shop has decided to present this event: “The shop is participating in a nationwide storytelling tour throughout 2007, designed to bring storytelling back to adult audiences.
