Fig gives “outstanding opportunity” to Buxton Opera House youngsters

Monday, August 19th, 2013

For the second year running, Glossop creative design and marketing agency, Fig Creative, has given work experience students from Buxton Opera House the benefit of its expertise, supporting them in the production of marketing material for the venue’s half-term youth festival.

Kaleidoscope’s Octoberfest will take place from Monday 28 October to Friday 1 November 2013 in venues around Buxton, and will include a range of young people’s workshops, from performing arts to arts and crafts.

The students spent two weeks at the entertainments venue, helping to organise all aspects of the festival, from booking acts to event marketing, gaining invaluable experience in arts event production.

Once again, Buxton Opera House approached Fig Creative to provide the young organisers with help in the design of promotional posters.

Fig invited the team to its offices to experience the creative design process, running a training session on design criteria and a brainstorm, before a designer brought the poster to life.

Said Jo Eltringham of Buxton Opera House:  “Last year’s team got so much out of Fig Creative’s marketing training that we were delighted that the agency agreed to help again this summer.

“Fig is the region’s best creative design and marketing agency, and so the workshop was an outstanding opportunity for our team to learn more about arts promotion.

Added Fig Creative’s Martin Duncan:  “Once again we were impressed with the Kaleidoscope team.  They had some great ideas and achieved a great deal in a short space of time.

“We were also pleased to have been able to contribute to such a wonderful community arts initiative, which looks set to be a great success.

“Fig is enjoying ongoing expansion, so who knows, one day we may be lucky enough to employ one of the Kaleidoscope team!”

Kaleidoscope’s Octoberfest posters will be appearing in the Buxton area from August.

Youngsters create their very own arts festival!

Saturday, August 4th, 2012

A new arts festival is about to spring up at Buxton Opera House, designed by the kids…for the kids!

As part of the Buxton Opera House work experience programme a selection of pupils from local schools were given the chance to create their own real life arts festival. The result is Octoberfest which will run from the 27th of October to the 4th November at various Buxton venues, including the Opera House and Pavilion Arts Centre. It will feature a wide range of acts with street dancers, musicians, artists and circus performers all expected to dazzle audiences.

The kids involved with putting together this fanastic line-up were involved at every stage of the festival’s creation. The impressive teenagers booked the acts, devised marketing strategies and tried their hand at event development.

All of this fantastic work was aided by Glossop based marketing agency FIG Creative who invited the children to their office to see how the process would happen in a real life business environment. Their sessons at FIG involved rapid brainstorming and discussing designs before a graphic designer made their posters come alive!

Martin Duncan from FIG Creative was delighted with the work of the students saying “The students worked really well with our in house professionals, they had some great ideas and I think they should be proud of what they achieved.”

The posters they created will start to appear in the Buxton area around August and you can keep up to date with how Octoberfest is shaping up by going to
