Fig Creative to host start-up business surgery

With over 520,000 new businesses registered in the UK in 2013, Glossop-based marketing agency, Fig Creative, is helping to kick start 2014’s new influx by hosting a free start-up business surgery which aims to help local budding entrepreneurs with their own start-up business plans.

Taking place on 21st January at Fig’s offices on High Street West, the event will see a number of professionals on hand to offer advice and answer any questions from attendees about starting a business.

In attendance will be representatives from High Peak Borough Council, Ridge Insurance, James & Co Accountants and the Royal Bank of Scotland, as well as a number of other local professionals from various sectors and organisations.

“2013 was a fantastic year for start-up businesses in the region and across the UK as a whole,” comments Helen Duncan, managing director at Fig Creative.  “We saw an unusually high number of individuals come through our doors seeking help, and with optimism in the UK at an all-time high since the recession 2014 looks to be a perfect year to kick start your plans and make things happen.”

According to website, 95% of all businesses launched in 2013 were small ventures launched by individuals.  Helen adds: “Starting a business can be daunting at first, but there is so much help available for those ready to take the plunge.

Glossop Cartons wins regional marketing award

Padfield firm Glossop Cartons has won a prestigious regional business award at this year’s Derbyshire’s BEST event.

They bagged the award for their inventive “Packaging Superheroes” initiative, which was created by Glossop based marketing and design agency Fig Creative.

Glossop Cartons was presented with the award at a black-tie event at Derby’s Roundhouse on Friday 28th September 2013. The awards are organised by the Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire Chamber of Commerce (DNCC) and Insider Media.

Speaking about the awards, Glossop Cartons director Jacky Sidebottom said: “Winning Derbyshire’s BEST award for our marketing campaign goes to highlight what can be achieved when you have creativity, passion and the right marketing team behind you.”

Fig Creative also backed Tony Price, the managing director of Mobile Visual Information Systems (MVIS) in his successful bid for the Outstanding Personal Achievement title. The Matlock company, which provides intelligent transport systems, was the recipient of the Marketing Campaign and Most Promising New Business titles last year.

Fig gives “outstanding opportunity” to Buxton Opera House youngsters

For the second year running, Glossop creative design and marketing agency, Fig Creative, has given work experience students from Buxton Opera House the benefit of its expertise, supporting them in the production of marketing material for the venue’s half-term youth festival.

Kaleidoscope’s Octoberfest will take place from Monday 28 October to Friday 1 November 2013 in venues around Buxton, and will include a range of young people’s workshops, from performing arts to arts and crafts.

The students spent two weeks at the entertainments venue, helping to organise all aspects of the festival, from booking acts to event marketing, gaining invaluable experience in arts event production.

Once again, Buxton Opera House approached Fig Creative to provide the young organisers with help in the design of promotional posters.

Fig invited the team to its offices to experience the creative design process, running a training session on design criteria and a brainstorm, before a designer brought the poster to life.

Said Jo Eltringham of Buxton Opera House:  “Last year’s team got so much out of Fig Creative’s marketing training that we were delighted that the agency agreed to help again this summer.

“Fig is the region’s best creative design and marketing agency, and so the workshop was an outstanding opportunity for our team to learn more about arts promotion.

Marketing pitch win for Glossop’s Fig Creative

Glossop based marketing firm Fig Creative have won the branding rights for a newly merged college.

The High Street West company will provide branding for the new Buxton & Leek College, part of the University of Derby. Their design already appears on the college’s signs and they will now work on new marketing material, including the 2013/14 prospectus.

Fig Creative beat off around 300 other shortlisted competitors after successfully negotiating a bidding process which including pitching to the university’s marketing team.

Speaking after the decision was announced, Beverley Cooke, University of Derby marketing manager said:

“We are delighted to have been able to award the new contract to Fig.  We have worked with the agency for three years, and are confident that this latest project will prove as successful as previous initiatives.  Fig understands our marketing goals and knows exactly how to help us achieve them.”

Peak Active Sport now offer online booking system

Glossop sports coaching company, Peak Active Sport, are to offer an online booking system for the first time.

The business provides schools and children of all abilities the chance to get involved in a range of sporting activities. With their plethora of courses constantly growing they realised they needed an efficient way to take bookings.

Glossop based marketing company Fig Creative were tasked with developing the new system. Fig’s Business Development Director, Martin Duncan, believes it will be a success and said:

“This online booking solution should work really well for PAS. They are a forward-thinking company, always looking for ways to improve their service.”

As well as this new way of booking onto PAS courses, the old traditional methods will remain usable, as PAS Director Steve Brackenbridge explained:

“We’re not getting rid of this paper-based system as many people will still book this way but we also wanted to offer busy parents the choice of booking online. We approached Fig, who also manage our website to look at a cost effective way of adding online bookings to our existing website, which they’ve done and we’re absolutely delighted with the result.”

Fig Creative Expands

Glossop based Fig Creative, has expanded both its team and its offices to facilitate the ongoing growth of the successful marketing and design agency.

The company has created two new roles to support its continued expansion, as it continues to win new clients from across the High Peak and beyond and to achieve industry accolades, including a recent short-listing in North West creative and media awards, Prolific North.

Tom Lay joined Fig Creative from Refresh PR in Manchester to undertake the new role of account executive, managing the agency’s comprehensive marketing campaigns for its growing portfolio of Marketing Partners.  He will also play an active role in the PR aspect of Fig’s offer.

Expanding Fig Creative’s successful graphic design team, Kim Hubball is one of the agency’s newest recruits, bringing with her experience gained in both in-house and self-employed graphic design, including a period in motion graphics.

Joining Tom and Kim as new members of the team, are sales and marketing assistant Becky Marsden and web developer Paul Coull.

Outdoor leadership camp’s website goes live

A specialist outdoor activity centre owned by the University of Derby has unveiled its new website – which was created by a Glossop marketing company.

Fig Creative drew up and created a new website for the 58-acre Oaklands Manor development situated near to Buxton College which features a 30 foot high climbing wall, a high ropes course and an artificial underground caving course. It offers businesses and educational establishments the chance to try out leadership packages and earn qualifications, from taking part in its various activities.

Working closely with University of Derby’s marketing team, Fig Creative who are based on High Street West, were tasked with coming up with something iconic for the website and the he university’s Marketing Manager Beverley Cooke explained that:

“It was important that the new Oaklands Manor logo worked alongside the University of Derby’s existing branding whilst at the same time had its own distinct identity to enable us to promote the extensive facilities to a wider audience.”

Free business start-up advice session

A local marketing agency is holding a free business surgery aimed at those thinking about setting up their own companies.

Organised by Fig Creative the drop in will take place on Tuesday 15th January between 10am and 12 noon at Glossop Business Centre.

The start of a New Year is often a popular time for people to launch new businesses and so Fig Creative are holding the surgery to allow people the chance to pick the brains of professionals who can answer questions and pass on advice. Experts will be on hands to discuss topics such as VAT, tax, insurance, IT, marketing, banking, accountancy – helping to make sure new business have all the bases covered.

Helen Duncan, MD from Fig Creative, believes that attending an event such as this is an encouraging statement of intent from a new business:

“If you’ve got an idea for a business then this is a real positive step in bringing that idea to life. It can often be a daunting prospect thinking about starting a business, with so many things to think about, so this event could give you that boost and encourage you to make it happen in 2013.”

She also said that she believes 2013 could well be the year of the new business:

“We organise the start up surgery every January because it is typically a time when people think of starting anew but in truth we’ve helped a lot of new businesses get off the ground in the past few months of 2012 so I think there is a definite increase in the trend.”

Glossop marketing company celebrates after clients win three business awards

A Glossop based marketing company is celebrating after two of its clients won business awards on the same night…at different events!

Fig Creative’s big night started at the annual Derbyshire’s BEST awards which took place at the Roundhouse in Derby.  They were nominated in the “best marketing campaign” category, alongside one of their clients Colour Mobile VMS.

There would have been a Fig celebration if either they or their client had won the award, and in the end it was  their client, solar-powered information systems specialists Colour Mobile VMS who took home the honour.

The good news did not stop there as Colour Mobile then went on to win the award for “most promising business.”

Both Fig Creative and Colour Mobile VMS were understandably delighted with how the evening panned out, Helen Duncan, MD of Fig said:

“I am absolutely thrilled for Colour Mobile VMS, who have recently re branded as MVIS. We’ve been working as their marketing partner for the last two years and they have achieved so much in that time. To win two BEST Derbyshire Awards is a massive accolade and well deserved.”

Tony Price, MD of Colour Mobile VMS was quick to praise Fig Creative for their work in the process leading up to the awards:

Two local companies shortlisted for business award

A local marketing company and one of its clients have been nominated in the “marketing campaign of the year” category at a prestigious awards ceremony.

FIG Creative who are based in Glossop have had a busy year in which they successfully re-branded and then launched their new marketing partner programme.

The work has clearly paid off as they have been nominated for an award at the Derbyshire & Nottinghamshire Chamber of Commerce BEST Business Awards 2012 awards where the cream of the business crop in the county is celebrated.

To top it all off, one of their customers, Colour Mobile VMS, who they have provided marketing for since 2010 have also been nominated in the same category. The double nomination perfectly highlighting their success.

Managing Director Helen Duncan was delighted at the news and commented:
