Glossop North End Juniors have been granted an FA status which is designed to recognise high quality work in club football.

The club has been awarded the FA Charter Standard Community Club status, just as they begin their 25 Year celebrations and finalise the details of a link up with a Premier League club. The FA status recognises and rewards high quality levels of provision in club football and it is awarded to clubs that are well run, sustainable and that give paramount important to child protection, quality coaching and safety.

Achieving the new status means that GNE Juniors join a group of 21 Charter Standard Community Clubs across Derbyshire. Liam Rooney, Senior Football Development Officer for Derbyshire County FA, told the club: “It is a great achievement to gain this award as this is the pinnacle of the FA Charter Standard Club Scheme”.

Dave Rowlinson, Vice Chairman, said: “This is fantastic news for everyone involved with the club; players, parents, coaches and all our committee members who have worked so hard to achieve the Community Club status.”

With the new status confirmed,  the club which delivers weekly footballing opportunities to over 300 boys and girls across 19 teams,  is turning its focus towards to fulfilling its ambitious five year plan.

The club is “committed to a number of key projects, all focussed around player and coach development to ensure they provide players with a safe and enjoyable pathway from an under 5 age group through to open age football”. Key areas within that plan include adding to the age group ranges for girls teams, new Futsal sides and supporting the FA on all its skills, equal opportunities and respect initiatives. In the past few months, a new club management committee has been formed, as has a football development committee which will oversee all the football related aspects of their plan. Their is also a new Fundraising Committee comprising of parents and supporter.

Chairman Martin Taylor commented: “As we entered our 25th year of junior football in the Glossop area, we knew we had look to the future and build on the excellent footballing standards we have set ourselves over recent years and also provide the right structure for growth.”
