Comedy Night
Rob
Riley (right) will be hosting this event which features:Rob Riley: Imagine the odd pearl of wisdom floating in a bucket of sick filth, served on very thin ice and you begin to get the picture. Gavin Webster: a confident, experienced Geordie comic with controversial material and surreal off-thewall ideas. He switches from friendly pub philosopher to ranting rabble-rouser with sharp oneliners and lively observations. Howard Read: A highly acclaimed stand-up comic who headlines all over the UK as well as France, Dubai, Iceland, Stockholm, Melbourne, Colorado, Australia and New York. The only British nominee for the Perrier Award at the 2003 Edinburgh Fringe Festival. Jason John Whitehead: Laid back wit, sarcasm and original style from a Canadian who has cut his comedy teeth in Scotland and England. Winner of the BBC New Comedy 2000 and finalist in the Daily Telegraph New Comedy Award 2000 Silky: Liverpudlian-in-exile Silky has performed all over the UK and Ireland, including the 2000 Glastonbury Festival. Upsettingly funny and biting, he is also the evil mastermind behind the Kill for a Seat Comedy clubs across the UK. |

Desmond Decker and the Aces
Born in Kingston Jamaica in 1943, Desmond Dekker was a close friend of Bob
Marley – they even worked together as trainee welders. Dekker’s breakthrough
came in 1967 with 007 (Shanty Town) on Chris Blackwell’s Island
label, but it was Israelites that came to define him. It became
Britain’s first reggae chart topper in March 1969 and seems to have had
a permanent place in the nation’s musical consciousness ever since. Now
a sprightly 62 year old, he has just released a 59 track anthology, You
Can Get it if You Really Want It, on Trojan Records.A master not just of party friendly ska, but also of honey voiced soul, gospel, and calypso - The Times Nucleus Roots
Uplifting, spiritual, dub and roots reggae from these long-time Lift favourites. The mighty Roots sound system will be cranking up to eleven and beyond as Manchester’s finest give the bass bins a serious work-out. |
