Lesley Davies, a vocal coach with three years teaching experience, is offering one-to-one singing tuition in the centre of Glossop.

Lesley has spent the last twenty years performing with a variety of bands and working as a solo vocalist accompanying herself on guitar. She also has extensive
recording experience and has been employed as a session singer. She has sung a variety of styles such as rock, pop, jazz, blues and folk.

Currently Lesley provides vocals for rock/blues band bAd DoG and also plays guitar and sings with new venture Isis - a contemporary acoustic duo with the emphasis on dynamic harmonies.

Lesley says:

"I just love music and singing so much – I want to pass on the knowledge and experience I have gained over the years to anyone who wishes to learn. I especially enjoy teaching teenagers and young people who possess basic musicality but lack confidence. However I would like to stress that all age groups are welcome and that there is no age limit to learning how to sing".

Lesley can offer advice on microphone technique and how to individualise a song and develop a communicative and expressive performance; correct breathing technique, posture and relaxation which are vital to the production of a good sound; vocal warm-ups, scales and exercises to strengthen and improve the voice; aural training and instruction in the 'language of music' (music theory). She has devised six courses including Preparation for Performance, Harmony Singing and Jazz Improvisation as well as a Starting Out course for beginners.

Lesley recently completed a Certificate in Teaching Singing from the Associated Board of the Royal School of Music and also possesses a Diploma (Honours) in
Jazz Popular and Contemporary Music. She is now working towards accreditation with Derbyshire Music Services with a view to teaching in Schools and
Colleges and/or a Certificate in Education

"Even at its most basic level, singing is therapeutic, self-confidence boosting and fun and the posture, relaxation and breathing exercises all serve to promote good health. I have a wide range of backing tracks available covering many different musical genres so that students can find their personal niche as I feel it is important that vocalists develop their own unique sound."

Sessions currently take place at Partington Theatre.
