Glossop Folk Train
The Glossop Folk Train leaves Manchester
Piccadilly at 1837 (6.37pm) on the fourth Thursday of each month, with some
of the best of the region's folk musicians performing live on the train
all the way to Glossop.
Here the action moves
to Glossop Labour Club for liquid refreshment and more live entertainment.
Food can be ordered on the train and the club is fully accessible to wheelchair
users.
Return is on the 2140
(9.40pm) train from Glossop, arriving into Piccadilly at 2217 (10.17 pm).
There is no charge for
the event - just the price of your ordinary train or Wayfarer ticket.
Kasey's open house musicians' nights
Anyone who can play an instrument is invited to come along and
join in on the second Thursday of each month. The first hour, from 8.00
until 9.00pm, is for children and novices to have a go, supported by a sympathetic
audience. After that anyone can play.
Volunteers are welcome - no-one is too young or old or inexperienced.
Just turn up and play.
Joe and Baz also run an open house musicians' night on the fourth
Sunday of each month.
Role-play group
A large friendly group meets Tuesday nights,
8.30 - 11.00pm. We play any role-play game, currently Warhammer. Free. For
more information, please call the club (01457 862265) on Tuesday evenings,
ask for Steve.
Table tennis
Glossop Labour Club Table Tennis Team meets on alternate
Tuesdays. Playing in the Glossop and District Table Tennis League, division
two,
the team won the Volcrepe Cup in 1996-7. Anyone wanting
to play, or to form a second team, should contact Ken Handley on 01457 853343.
Women's reading circles
Esmé's reading group meets once a month on the first
Thursday. A novel, usually a modern one, is chosen for discussion. Although
the group developed from an English literature class, there is nothing highbrow
or intellectual about the proceedings.
If anyone would like to join they will find a group of women having
a drink and an informal chat about the month's book, which has been chosen
by one of them. Any intrepid male who would like to come along would be
welcomed. We also go
on a theatre trip occasionally.
( In memory
of Esmé )
Kasey has started a second reading circle - for women
only. It is supposed to be fun and we don't envisage taking ourselves
too seriously - we are a mixed bunch who enjoy reading but are a little
wary of getting too 'academic'. If anyone is
interested in joining, please call Kasey on 01457 861796 (e-mail K.Carver@bolton.ac.uk).
War games
Large, friendly, young group (14 - 30-something) meets every other
Saturday from 12 noon to 5.00pm. Mostly Games Workshop stuff.
50p each towards club costs.
For more information, please call the club (01457 862265) on Tuesday
evenings, ask for Steve.
