The Edale Rambler folk trains from Manchester and Sheffield have proved so popular over the past few years that the project has expanded onto the Piccadilly-Glossop line to explore Glossop’s exploding music scene.

The Glossop Folk Train leaves Manchester Piccadilly at 1837 (6.37pm) on the fourth Thursday of each month, with some of the best of the region's folk musicians performing live on the train all the way through Ashburys, Gorton, Guide Bridge, Flowery Field, Newton for Hyde, Godley, Hattersley, Broadbottom and Dinting to Glossop.

Here the action moves to Glossop Labour Club for liquid refreshment and more live entertainment. Food can be ordered on the train and the club is fully accessible to wheelchair users.

Return is on the 2140 (9.40pm) train from Glossop, arriving into Piccadilly at 2217 (10.17 pm).

There is no charge for the event - just the price of your ordinary train or Wayfarer ticket.

Glossop Folk Train has secured funding until June 2005 from the Hope Valley and High Peak Transport Partnership.

The partnership - which is partly funded by the Countryside Agency and Derbyshire County Council - launched the first three Glossop Folk Trains on a trial basis, building on the success of the Edale Rambler folk trains from Manchester and Sheffield since 1998. The partnership also provides guided walks from local stations.
