People living or working in Derbyshire who need some advice on issues such as debt, employment problems, housing or benefits concerns can now get quick access to advice online.

Advice Derbyshire, have announced the launch of their new website www.advicederbyshire.org

Visitors can also get advice by email by following the link from the website to ‘get advice by email’

Kris Ambler, Advice Derbyshire partnership manager said ‘This innovative new approach ensures that more people in Derbyshire are able to get access to the free, quality advice they need, even if they are unable to drop-in to their local agency or work during the day. Self-help guidance on the site and email enquiries are accessible 24hours a day.’

Advice seekers can also call the dedicate Adviceline, which is open 5 days a week, Monday to Friday with 2 late night advice sessions on Tuesdays and Thursdays. When the helpline is open until 8pm

Call 08444 111 308 from a landline and 0300 3300 650 from a mobile. All calls cost just 5p per minute. Textphone callers can call 08444 111 445.

Local creative company wins major rebranding project at Bradburys

Local creative and marketing company, Fig Creative has won a five-way pitch for the important rebranding project at Bradburys, the UK’s largest cheese distributor.

Bradbury & Son or Bradburys as it will now be known, has been in Buxton for 127 years and has grown into an innovative £90m turnover company, sourcing cheese across the globe to supply the UK’s leading supermarkets.

Chris Chisnall, Marketing Director at Bradburys said, “This was an important step for us as we are a traditional company, but as the largest and fastest growing cheese distributor business in the UK, we wanted to demonstrate our vision, our passion and our innovation in the industry. We are constantly renewing, modernising and refreshing our operations and business outlook. We felt it was time for our branding to portray that ethos.”

Fig Creative was invited to pitch for the branding work, along with four other agencies from Manchester and Leeds, but it was local company, Fig Creative who wowed the Board. Chris Chisnall said, “Fig Creative totally understood what we were looking for and it was a unanimous decision to choose their branding ideas. We are delighted with the work that Fig Creative has produced. They have been easy to work with and have helped us at every stage of the project, from the early concepts, branding guidelines and how it is now being used, on signage, stationery, presentations, on our vehicles and on our website www.bradburyscheese.co.uk.”

Fig Creative have just undergone a major change project themselves, marking sixteen successful years as First Impression with an exciting new name and new look to launch their Marketing Partners Programme. The friendly Fig Creative team, based in the High Peak is now 7 strong and offers a full range of creative marketing services including branding consultancy, PR, design & print, copy writing, internet and social media strategy. On Saturday evening 17.00 28^th January Glossop Mountain Rescue Team found themselves very busy in the early evening. The first call was to assist North West Ambulance Service to extract a lady with lower leg injuries from the Doctors Gate area. Whilst this incident was underway the team were called to a second incident to assist a couple benighted in the fog on Torside Clough. A party was dispatched to Torside Visitors car park where the couple were located having found their own way off the hill. The third incident resulted from information given to the police from two passers-by regarding a male with an injured ankle around the Bleaklow Head area. The team dispatched a small party to the area but the search was without a find.

Glossop Chimney – latest

Building safety officials are scheduled to inspect Glossop’s former Ferro-Alloys chimney today (Wednesday, February 1).

The owner of the site has appointed contractors to scale the 300 ft-plus chimney and carry out a periodic survey to assess its general condition and identify any risks requiring urgent action.

Ian Huddlestone, executive councillor for regeneration, explained: “This is a scheduled survey, and isn’t being carried out in response to a particular problem. We’re expecting the results of the inspection to be made available to us in around two weeks”.

Meanwhile, the council has submitted a bid for a grant from the Government’s Growing Places Fund, the purpose of which is to help owners clear and dispose of sites that are difficult to move.

Cllr Huddlestone added: “The aim of Growing Places is to strengthen local economies and create jobs by encouraging the regeneration of redundant or underused sites that have potential but are stagnating and have become an eyesore.

“We believe that the application for the Surrey Street site ticks all the boxes but we’re expecting the fund to be massively oversubscribed so there are no guarantees of success”, he stressed.

Ten arrested as police target illegal drugs in Glossop and New Mills

Police have arrested 10 people in the New Mills and Glossop areas during a 10 week long campaign to target illegal drug use and supply.

Response teams and Safer Neighbourhood officers worked alongside detectives during the operation, which started Monday, November 14 and finished on Sunday, January 22.

Six searches were carried out at properties in the area; four were in New Mills, one in Glossop and one in Gamesley. Officers recovered suspected Class A and Class B drugs, including cannabis, heroin, cocaine and amphetamine.

Detective Chief Inspector Tracy Lewis said: “The operation was set up to act on information gathered from the local community and target those suspected of involvement in illegal drug use and supply.

“Due to the recognised link between illegal drug activities and other offences such as burglary and car crime, we will always take positive action against drug dealers. The operation was all about helping to reduce crime in the area and to keep our area safe”

Inspector Gareth Meadows, local police inspector for the Glossop and New Mills areas said: “Classified drugs are illegal for a reason; they limit the lives and opportunities of those who take them and can have a harmful effect on the wider community. The only people who stand to benefit are those who sell them for their own profit.

“I aim to ensure that local people have the confidence that the police in Glossop and New Mills will act on information received about such criminals and take action.This operation has led to some good results and much of this success is due to intelligence the public has provided. I am grateful for this and would urge anyone with information to contact us.”

Glossop Mountain Rescue Called Out

On Saturday 21^st January at 18:09 the teams exercise was disrupted as the team were called to search Bleaklow for a male and female with a dog who had become benighted. The team requested assistance from Woodhead Mountain Rescue Team, 3 Search & Rescue Dogs and a police helicopter. The helicopter quickly located the couple in the Westend area of the Derwent and passed their location to the team. The missing couple were located and the female had suffered ligament damage to her knee and foot. She was evacuated to a waiting ambulance. All team members were off the hill by 3am.

Speedwell Bus Routes will Carry on

Transport bosses promise Speedwell routes will continue. Passengers have been promised that services will continue after the bus company ceased trading. Hyde-based Speedwell ran bus routes in Oldham, Hyde, and Ashton-under- Lyne as well as Glossop.

Bosses at Transport for Greater Manchester have now found other bus firms to take over the affected routes. They include the 341 Hyde, Mottram and Glossop service and the 343 Oldham, Mossley and Hyde service. Michael Renshaw, TfGM’s bus and rail director, said: “Our main priority in this instance is to ensure that all affected bus services continue to operate as normal for passengers, and that no further disruption is caused. “As such, I can assure passengers that we have acted swiftly in finding replacement operators to run these services on a temporary basis within a short space of time, and we will now take steps to ensure that appropriate longer-term contracts are awarded to replace Speedwell.” Click here for more transport stories Speedwell was established in 2002, but its owners had been operating services in Glossop and Tameside for about 20 years.

It is still unclear why Speedwell ceased operating. No one from the firm was available for comment.

Christopher Bowles, chairman of Greater Manchester Bus Operators Association, said: “It is always sad when a local business providing a service to the public finds that they can no longer continue. “However, GMBOA is pleased that other bus operators have been able to support Speedwell customers by continuing to provide services with minimal disruption.”
