Buxton Museum and Art Gallery has an exhibition celebrating the life of Andrew Cavendish, 11th Duke of Devonshire from Saturday, March 15 to Tuesday, May 6.

Free workshops allowing people to explore their own family stories will run alongside this exhibition.

My Family and Other Things
Friday, April 18, 10.00am -12 noon
Children aged over 8 and their relatives can work together to write word pictures of their own family stories at a special event lead by River Wolton, Derbyshire Poet Laureate.

Captured Memories
Saturday, April 26,
10.00am - 12.30pm and 1.30 - 4.00pm
Participants will use clay and other materials to create a picture record of their family memories, guided by ceramics artist Caroline Chouler-Tissier. The finished works will be fired in Caroline's kiln and can be collected from the museum afterwards.

Digital Stories
Saturday, May 3 and Monday, May 5

1.30 - 3.00pm and 3.00 - 4.30pm
Glassball Art Projects will help families make a short video journal based on their family stories. People will have a chance to film and photograph the objects they bring along and include photographs in the film as well as film or audio record a voiceover of their family stories and memories. Families will get a copy of their video journal on DVD.

All the workshops are free but booking is essential. To book a place, call the museum on 01298 24658 or email buxton.museum@derbyshire.gov.uk 

The events are being funded by the Friends of Buxton Museum and Art Gallery via a grant from the Lottery through Awards for All.
