Neighbourhood Environmental Action Teams

The Glossop Vision Board is inviting Glossop residents and community organisations to take part in a project designed to check the environmental quality of neighbourhoods in Glossop and to identify areas for improvement.

As part of the Liveability grant funding awarded by the Government earlier this year, the Glossop Vision Board is working with Environmental Campaigns, a charity that runs the Keep Britain Tidy Campaign, to undertake a series of environmental checks across the Glossop area. The audits will form the basis of a Neighbourhood Environmental Action Team project.

NEAT projects provide communities with surveys and questionnaires to help volunteers measure the state of the local environment. The 'toolkit' consists of:
  • A physical survey of the local environment looking at levels of litter and issues such as graffiti, fly posting and dog fouling.
  • A questionnaire to get an idea of people's attitudes to issues about their local environment.
  • Ideas and information on sources of support and funding.
Before carrying out the survey in their neighbourhood, volunteers were able to take part in a training session alongside an ENCAMS officer.

After the survey the ENCAMS officer will write an independent report highlighting areas of concern and suggested action.

If you would like more information about the Neighbourhood Environmental Action Teams project please contact Sarah Parkin, Glossop Town Project Manager, on 01457 866820.
