Glossop Arts and Leisure Association presents

Glossop Carnival and Day in the Park 2008

Saturday, July 5
Sunday, July 6

The carnival is an annual community event held in Manor Park,
a short walk from the centre.

Tameside window ladderThis year will be bigger and better than ever. The main attraction which we are delighted to have secured is the Tameside Sea Cadets, who will perform the 'Climbing the Rigging' amazing sight to behold, recently performed in London before HM the Queen.

There is also a funfair, craft stalls, farmers market, Cheerleaders, Morris Groups, a Maypole Dance and three very different bands to create a party atmosphere – the Arnfield Brass, Glossopdale Community College Jazz Band and a Pipe Band.

There will be a procession led by the Oldham Scottish Pipe Band on Saturday, July 5, starting from the Town Hall Car Park, commencing at 12.30pm up to Manor Park.

There will also be an RSPCA Dog Show, open to all.

The weekend would not be complete without the traditional Hog Roast and we hope to complement this by having a real ale tent. There will be events on both days to entertain all the family. The three bands will also be playing in various sets throughout the days, interspersed with performances by the Sea Cadets.

Local charities can have a stall for free to raise funds for worthy causes. The Fire Service will also be in attendance, re-enacting a 'chip pan fire display' and a simulated emergency rescue by cutting up a car. There will be a fancy dress competition with Disney characters being the theme with various categories for all to be able to compete in.

We are actively looking for corporate sponsorship from local businesses for this event. A variety of sponsorship packages is available to suit all budgets. For further information please contact Tina Howe on 07720 073000.
