Registered Charity no 1091836

What is the U3A?

An organisation for retired people (3rd agers), with leisure time available to meet like-minded members, to expand their knowledge, share interests or acquire new skills, and make new friends.

Each U3A is essentially a co-operative of men and women who meet to share common interests and a desire to learn for its own sake, with membership open to all over-50s no longer in full-time employment.

Although called a university, no educational qualifications are required. The ethos of the U3A is to share our knowledge and experiences, and develop our own individual capabilities by learning from other members.

Launched in France in 1972, the movement has now spread worldwide.

In the UK, all local U3As are autonomous. This is our strength, in that we decide what we would like to do and then we arrange it.
