The Moon and Sixpence
on Wednesday
sees local band Stone Sole River
(left) open this year's festival followed by Barnsley giants and good
friends to Glossop, Gaia. To end
the first night Nice Peter will
without doubt send everyone home with a huge smile on their faces!
Thursday sees Sounds
Unplugged heat winner Garron Frith
open the night to be followed by another local band Rook
and the Ravens.
Rook and the Ravens are having a great time at the moment following a
very well received tour the back end of last year plus a few major
supports saw these guys on some pretty impressive stages. George
Borowski (right) closes the night and as always George aims
to please and as ever should be a gig to remember from this year's line
up.
Opening for Friday is local
young guitar virtuoso George Fell
in what should be a huge show as The Carbs
follow - this band from the New Mills area really know how to make
people get into the mood for a full on night. Then if that wasn't
enough for the night the Curragh Sons
(left) close with what is only half way through this 5 daze of musical
madness!!!
Saturday and bAd
DoG
(right) carry on the local band theme - with a set of classics done as
only bAdDoG can do - follow Atlanta Roots
- veterans of the world
of rhythm and blues, they promise only quality and to date have never
done any different.
Sunday
(afternoon 5.00 - 7.00) International band from Norway return to the
Moon and Sixpence and as before The Flaming Moes
(left) should be very
well received, with support in the form of up-coming band Buswell
and
Sounds Unplugged heat winner Outroads. Plus roomthirteen
will be
playing an acoustic set in the beer garden between the artists inside -
a full afternoon leads the way to a finale that has to be seen to be
believed.
Sunday (evening
8.00 - 11.30) Tom Western,
local heavyweight singer/songwriter opens
this crescendo of a night towards the legendary Kirk McElhinney
and
finally onto the awesome Tony Auton
(right).
This year the Star Inn
is also on board from the Friday with Sounds Unplugged heat winners -
blues and ragtime player Serious Sam Barrett
and the amazing
singer/songwriter Stefan Pope
(left).
Saturday
sees another Glossop favourite Jon Gomm
(right) - what this guy can't
do to a guitar really isn't worth knowing! Truly astonishing.
Sunday and the guys from The Carbs bring
out their stripped down
version called Double Trouble. This maybe a slimmed version of the
Carbs but a brilliant combo in its own right.
Every single show is free
plus you can buy tickets for Bomfest (in Barnsley in July) and
Moonlighting (at the Partington Theatre in October) during the festival by asking a member of staff at the
Moon and Sixpence.
The whole gig guide to the event can be collected from the Moon and
Sixpence and the Star Inn or from the myspace site:
Glossop
artist
Jean Hobson
has an exhibition of limited edition signed prints of
musicians ranging from Aretha
Franklin to Bob
Dylan (right) at the Moon and Sixpence from Wednesday, May 14
until Saturday, May 31. |
Moonlighting is a new series of 'music for listening to' live events promoted by Bitrate Sound at the Partington Theatre in Henry Street, starting on Monday, October 20 at 7.00pm with Gaia, Rook and the Ravens, Kirk McElhinney and guests. Tickets £8 in advance (available now from the Moon and Sixpence) or £12 on the door.
